CHANCE*
PRTF Waiver Grant Program
The South Carolina Department of Mental Health in conjunction with South Carolina Medicaid is excited to offer a special program for children ages 4 to 19 who have severe emotional disturbances. These services are offered in the home and community instead of a residential psychiatric treatment facility.
Families and youth will have a choice of services and supports to help keep their child at home or when they return from a treatment facility. The child will be assessed by clinical professionals from a qualified provider list. If the child needs the level of care that would be provided in a treatment facility and they meet the Medicaid requirements, they will qualify for the PRTF Waiver services. Read More
This project began in March 2008, in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties. These services will be provided to 50 children in the first year.
Expansion Plan - Each year new counties will be added and services will be provided for up to 150 children statewide. The program is scheduled to be statewide by 2010.
To be eligible, a potential waiver participant must meet the PRTF level of care (LOC) and meet all Medicaid financial requirements. Assessments are provided in the community by a qualified provider (licensed clinical counselor) for potential waiver participants. The LOC is determined by the Clinical Care Coordinators by the operating agency (SC Department of Mental Health) and approved through the South Carolina Medicaid agency (SC Health and Human Services).
